How to Configure Kaspersky To Allow File and Print Sharing?

Kaspersky Internet Security setting for files & Network sharing;

  • Network/File Sharing, Cannot share files ( KIS 2011)

( post by forumer cmsagent at kaspesky lab forum)

Just thought I’d post the resolution to this issue, thanks to Kaspersky Technical Support. I was doing everything right except for two settings that needed to be changed from, “Block” to “Allow.” I have no idea how these settings all of a sudden changed on me. I know I didn’t do it, otherwise I’d be able to fix this myself. Solution below.

  1. Open Kaspersky.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Firewall on the left.
  4. Click on the Settings… button on the right.
  5. Click on the Networks tab.You will usually see two connections here, one for the Internet , the other with the brand of network adapter you have (Intel, Broadcom, 3Com, etc). The Internet one should already be set to Public network, and the other set to Local.
  6. Right click on Local and select Trusted network. (I found that leaving it on Local worked just fine)
  7. Click OK twice.

If this does not work, then for additional security, by default Kaspersky also restricts certain local communication on networks even when the network is set to Trusted. Since we have already tried that, please also make this change:

  1. Open Kaspersky.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Firewall on the left.
  4. Click on the Settings… button on the right.
  5. Click on the Packet rules tab.
  6. Right-click on Local Services (TCP) and set it to Allow. (You can also highlight this entry, then select Edit from top)
  7. Click OK.
  8. Right-click on Local Services (UDP) and set that to Allow as well. (You can also highlight this entry, then select Edit from top)
  9. Click OK three times.

Doing this worked like a charm for me. For those of you who are having the same problem as me, try this method, it works!

  • Other solutions is > for KIS 7.0;

Here are the step-by-step instructions to configure Kaspersky to allow file and print sharing:

  1. Open Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0
  2. Click the ‘Settings’ button. This opens the main settings window.
  3. In the menu on the left, click the black box to the left of where it says ‘Protection’ to expand the list of options beneath it (if it is not already expanded).
  4. Click ‘Firewall’. This opens the firewall options.
  5. Under ‘Filtration System’, click the ‘Settings…’ button. This opens another settings window. Note: Be careful, there are two of these buttons on the same screen under different categories. Make sure to click the one towards the top.
  6. Click the ‘Zones’ tab.
  7. Highlight the zone for your network adapter by clicking it once. You can find the correct zone by scrolling to the right and looking under the ‘Description’ column. If it lists the name of an Ethernet card as the description then that is the one. Note: If you have two adapters, for instance one wireless and one Ethernet, you will need to do this to whichever one is used for sharing. Both adapters can be set for this as well, if needed.
  8. Under ‘Rule description (click underline parameters to edit):’ find where it says ‘Zone Status: Internet’. The word ‘Internet’ is in blue letters with an underline. Click it twice so it changes to “Local Network”. Note: Do not use the ‘Trusted’ setting. It is very insecure.
  9. Click ‘OK’.
  10. Click ‘OK’ on the previous Window.
  11. Close Kaspersky. Do not worry, this does not close the entire program. It will still be running and guarding the PC.
  12. Do this to all PCs which will be used to share files and/or printers.
